FPA offers comprehensive reproductive healthcare including birth control visits with or without an exam, first trimester surgical abortion, medication abortion up to 11.0 weeks, and second trimester abortion procedures up to 23.5 weeks.

Some of the most restrictive abortion laws have been passed in Florida in recent years. FPA offers help to patients travelling from Florida to access abortion care.

Florida has 4.6 million people of reproductive age, and Miami / Fort Lauderdale residents cannot access abortion care after 15 weeks of pregnancy in your city at this time. There are other laws in Florida that made it harder for patients to have an abortion in a Miami / Fort Lauderdale abortion clinic, including a 24 hour waiting period after an in-person counseling visit which forces patients to make two trips to the clinic, ultrasounds are required by law even when a physician does not find it medically necessary, parental consent and parental notice are required for minor patients, and state Medicaid coverage of abortion is banned except in very limited circumstances.

Regulations like these delay abortion care, and often prevent patients from scheduling and having an abortion procedure in early pregnancy. In Illinois there are no waiting periods or laws to delay your care—we can see you any day Monday through Saturday.

We can help if you are pregnant and unsure about how to move forward. Almost half of all pregnancies are not planned, and it can be a stressful experience to find out that you are pregnant when you didn’t plan it or don’t want to be. Sometimes abortion is the best option, but for some patients adoption or parenting is a better choice. FPA staff are unbiased. We do not want you to have an abortion, we want you to make the best choice for your situation, and we are here to help if you decide to have an abortion procedure. We can offer prenatal care and/or adoption referrals if you opt to continue your pregnancy.

When you are pregnant you have three options:

  • Parenting
  • Abortion
  • Adoption

We trust you to make a decision that is right for you, and sometimes it helps to talk with someone outside of your everyday life who does not have any personal opinions that might influence your decision. If you are unsure of your decision and need unbiased advice and information, we recommend contacting All-Options. This talkline is staffed by volunteer peer-counselors. You can talk with someone about a past or present experience with abortion, adoption, parenting, infertility or pregnancy.

Only about 2% of patients who have an abortion experience a complication, and most of these complications are minor and easily treatable with follow-up procedures or antibiotics.”

Risks depend on your personal medical history as well. When you make an appointment, we will send you a link to confidentially complete a full medical history. If our medical staff members have any concerns we will call you and have a phone consultation, before you travel to FPA from Miami / Fort Lauderdale for abortion care.
