WELL-WOMAN
EXAMS (Pap Smears)
Family Planning Associates Medical Group provides well woman exams, including
pap smears, STI testing (genital warts/HPV, gonorrhea, chlamydia and trichomonas)
and testing for vaginal infections (yeast vaginitis and bacterial vaginosis)
and urinary tract infections. We can provide prescriptions for birth control
for one year for those patients who have had a well-woman exam with us.
If you have had an abortion with us and received a 3 month prescription
for birth control, you can make an appointment for your well-woman exam
and we can extend your prescription for one year.
The pap smear is a screening test for cervical cancer. A speculum is inserted
into the vagina to see the cervix and take a sample of cells with a brush.
If a pap smear result is abnormal, it does not mean that you have cervical
cancer. It means that further testing (HPV testing and/or colposcopy)
should be done to determine what abnormality is present, if any. For more
information click here: Abnormal Pap
Smear | HPV Testing | Colposcopy
HPV, gonorrhea, chlamydia and trichomonas testing is performed with a
cervical brush or swab, similarly to a pap smear.
FPA does not provide screening tests for HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis.
If you have no symptoms and have no reason to believe that you are infected,
but wish to be screened anyway, you can donate blood at Lifesource
Blood Centers. This is a great way to do something good for someone
else and to get the screening tests you want. Lifesource will contact
you if you test positive.
